“Making our mark: Language promotion through exploring cultural roots”
is a bilateral linguistic Comenius project, part of The Lifelong Learning Programme, which brings together two countries – England and Romania, two cities – Plymouth and Bucharest, two schools – Hele’s School and Sfinţii Voievozi School.

The main objectives of this project are:

  • to develop knowledge and understanding among young people and educational staff of the diversity of European cultures , languages and values;
  • to help young people acquire the basic life skills and competences necessary for their personal development, for future employment and for active citizenship.

The project obtained the approval of the British Council in the autumn of 2007. It will last for two years, will involve 40 students and 8 teaching staff from both countries, and it will see the making of numerous activities related to different topics:

  • promoting the intercultural dialogue;
  • encouraging the study of the foreign languages;
  • protecting the environment;
  • using the ICT during the classes.

The novelty of this project consists in the fact that a group of English pupils will be studying the Romanian language, as an optional, for two years, and that they will have the possibility to find out more about Romania from their peers.
